I come from a family with a long history of service within the Australian Defence Force, and it’s history I am greatly proud of as an Indigenous serviceman. When I enlisted in the Australian Army in 2019, I was the third of my immediate family to chose to serve my country, and since then my younger sister has also enlisted to serve alongside me. I am also the fifth member of my extended family to enlist in the Australian Defence Force, with a long history of indigenous relatives dating back to the First World War who have also served. I extremely proud to continue this legacy, and believe it’s important that my fellow Indigenous service members continue to tell our stories, and the stories of the legacies we follow, for future generations to come.
