I was called up for National Service and did 2 years service. I trained for Vietnam in Singleton NSW. We were trained to go to Vietnam, and then Australia pulled out. Then I was sent to Lavarack Barracks to finish my service. No regrets, it opened up a lot of doors. It gave me a war service loan to buy a home. I had been drinking in the park before I got called up. Service gave me a purpose in life. I’m proud to have served, like the rest of the Indigenous diggers.
