I was born in Brisbane, the youngest of six. I have two sisters and three brothers, the eldest of whom is Uncle Col Watego OAM, who was a huge influence on my decision to join in 1989 when I was 18 years old. My brother Neil joined way before me and left before I enlisted. I served a rewarding six years, learning a great deal that has benefited my career and life ever since. Whether I was working as a concreter or musician in my 20s and 30s or in my current role as a medical equipment technician, I have transformed the knowledge I gained from Defence to undertake each role with integrity. The work I currently do, improves the quality of life of others using ethical and sustainable practices. I am very passionate about having a role that supports the access rights of marginalised and disadvantaged people. I feel proud to have contributed to their lives and our community. When I was blessed with the opportunity to work as an instructor for my brother Col, the Founder of TRYP Consultancy, I was able to use my skills from my Defence years to support at-risk Indigenous and non-Indigenous youth. The TRYP Consultancy provides participants with mentors who teach leadership, team-building and development skills that serve as a strong foundation for their future. In turn, this provides a sences of purpose and belonging.
