Australian Defence Medal

My name is Able Seaman Kirsten Taylor Hansson, a proud descendant of Badu and Boigu Islands in the Torres Straits. My totems are Yam Leaves and the Shovel Nose Shark. I was born and raised in Mackay, Queensland. I have served in the Royal Australian Navy for 4 years and have served on ex-HMAS Darwin and ex-HMAS Melbourne. I was luckier enough to travel around the world and decommission both FFG’s. The highlight of my career has been attending the Coloured Digger Ceremonial for ANZAC day in Redfern 2021. I am now at Defence Force Recruiting, Wollongong, working as part of the Indigenous Recruiting Team.
